I have been noticing many guys running SO 2R. I know what it means but wonder how 1 guy typically uses 2 radios to his benefit. Only one QSO can be made at a time and it is difficult hearing more than one signal at a time. How is this generally used to the benefit of the contester?

The basic idea, for most people, is to call CQ on one radio while searching and pouncing on the other. This is most commonly done by mortal humans when the rate on the CQ radio is down below say 80 or so. The two radio's are typically on different bands, and you use separate antennas and bandpass filters so that the transmitting CQ station doesn't interfere with the S&P'ing station. You run the audio for one radio into each ear, typically with some kind of blending switch.
You can increase your rate by 10-20% over a single radio, especially on Sunday afternoon of SS or during the August NAQP when rates are down around 60 for the CQ'ing rig.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
