I'm new to ham radio, and I had never participated in any contests until last weekend. I only made a few contacts (just trying it out--not trying to win). Do I need to send a log/application to the contest headquarters even though I wasn't really trying to win? If it's necessary, I will. Otherwise, I will not. Thanks.

Send it in. Even if it is a paper log.
I was a paper logger for a long time, even though I had a logging program. I've worked only a few contacts for reasons of only needing certain countries on certain bands/modes. I also have just gone full bore and worked as many as possible for the points etc....
The new windows based logging programs are great. I use Log-EQF and it helps me tally up scores and formats the file for viewing by the contest committe.
I hope you had fun in the contest. I sure did!!!!!
