Not a topic, but just a question. Why 3830? I know it is a contest score reflector, but how did they come up with this handle? I can only guess that in the old days (pre internet), that this was the freq that contestors converged on to swap lies. Well, am I way of frequency on this one or not? 73 all from FN14 (6m is alive and somewhat kicking).

You are correct: that frequency is still used today for that very reason. It's claimed that some midwest contest club established it as a score gathering point - but other clubs also used that or a close-by frequencuy for the same reason...

Why not?
3830 goes back to the earliest days of the National Contest Journal, back when it was published by the Minnesota Wireless Association. If memory serves, this was the club's calling frequency, and one thing let to another...

That is the frequency where the score rumors
are exchanged right after most major contests.
Check it out sometime.
