Why do I hear some contesters still soliciting qso's up to 1-2 minuites after a contest ends? Surely those that can afford to build contest stations can also afford accurate timepieces. I don't believe there is any excuse to solicit qso's 1 second after the end of the contest nor 1 second before.

I've never heard this in any contest, but there are two simple answers, none of which may be attributed to malice:
1) The operator has been up for two days and is running on empty.
2) The op heard the contest on the air, figured out the exchange and has no idea when it's over or for that matter the rules, they are just having fun.
