ARRL VHF Contests Reply

Are direct (non-repeater or satellite) packet radio contacts valid for QSO points in these contests? Where on the band(s) is this generally done? Is it done in FM or SSB mode?
Thanks,
Joe - WG1Z

Joe,

Unless the contest rules state which modes are allowed, any legal Amateur communuications modes may be used. The ARRL VHF contests don't specify modes. I use, CW, SSB, FM. CW is considered a DIGITAL mode, so.. Packet would not be excluded. As to where to operate, would be on the local Simplex packet freqs. Packet on the VHF bands are transmitted on FM. Hope this is of some help.

Wes, W3SE DM03
