Hmmm, given the paucity of actual hardware in this picture, the announcement seems a bit premature, Yuri... To my eye you are a minimum of five years and $500,000+, from production serial number #01... Get back with us when you have a working unit to demo... Please include the relevant receiver performance for close in signals, MDS, phase noise, intercepts, etc., and please include the spectrum analysis pictures for the transmitter, absence of keyclicks... And, frequency stability, accuracy, repeatibility, of the vfo's etc (crystal ovens de rigeur)... Then regale us with descriptions of how the software handles the A-B transfers, run on #1 while S&P on #2, simultaneous color, bandscope for both receivers, etc... Explain how the auto tuner is better than YaeComWood, and how the factory service centers will work (24 hour, factory replacement, not repair, would be my choice), how many antenna ports, etc... Amaze us with the hifi, low noise receiver audio, and the absolutely perfectly square, filter skirts, backed up by switcheable Conn filter sections... And the 64 bit, IF DSP... Along with the bullet proof front end with the RF preselector resonant tuned by the CPU - not 500kc wide - so that the multiplier radio can hear within 5 kc of the run radio on 160... Then show us that the 500 watt transmitter section can run 100% duty cycle RTTY continuously without any fan noise...
And assure us that the boards will be made and stuffed here in the hew hess hay, eh? (a big point)

This is a big project and you do have my best wishes, Yuri... GL

Hi Denny,
You got most of it right.
We prefer not to count our electrons before they hatch, rather publish rock solid specs based on reality after we measure them. As far as premature and paucity, that's it, it is all inside, the only thing you might need is the PA1 amplifier (coming soon after DR1, also in a carry-on case). We chose to share the good looks now, so you can start clearing your table of rif-raf for this slick looking DRone.
As far as output power, so far we are shooting for 100W, but if there is room left for 500W PA and PS inside, then it will be an option.
Designed and manufactured here in Amerika by hams that will listen to hams and implement features as needs develop.
Jus' stay tuned (to www.computeradio.us), it might be much sooner than you figured.

That is a very nice empty metal box and logo "wallpaper".

"Press release"?

I have computer case that looks almost like that, but it has a few things inside of it.

I thank you for your compliment and I am impressed with your psychic abilities to see through the stainless steel, but I can assure you it ain't no empty.
If you read more carefully, you might get the "picture" what the press release is all about and few more clues that "box" is alive from the www.computeradio.us home page.
With your psychic abilities you might want to comment on comparison between DR1 and FTDX9000.
I hope your "computer case" will be able to compete with DR1, competition is an engine of progress, we all can benefit from it. Good luck!
If you would like to join the "Dream Team" and help developing radio we all were craving for, you are welcome. If you wish to be a ......, it is your choice and speaks of your attitude. Regardless, DR1 is developing, many top notch designers are contributing and at proper times more information will be available. Stand by, you might be pleasantly surprised.

We will make announcements as the work progresses and hardware becomes available. I hate to make promises and then play Microsoft games or ship product that we would be finishing in user's shacks. We might be releasing modules as they become available to facilitate more software development by the users.

Yuri,

Unlike the pessimists who have posted their cynical remarks, you are to be applauded for taking on such an aggressive project. I have a few questions for you.

Will this be a turn-key arrangement or will individual component parts be available?

Perhaps you mentioned it somewhere on your web page and I missed it. Will there be a focus on using the DRone (or baby DRone) in a 'remote' application? There are a growing number of hams wanting to locate the equipment somewhere other than their 100' x 80' small city lot. Are you hoping to attract that market too?

What is the basic design scheme? triple or quad het? Hard filters + DSP? Or are you following the SDR path?

Is the focus on HF? Low VHF?

What is your target market? Are you intending to compete with the K2? 746PRO? 756PROIII? etc. There may be room in the middle market for a superior performance radio. But the 'elite' market is likely to shun such a system--except for the DXpedition aspect.

Hi Ford, N0FP

Thanks for your interest and questions. Basically, the answer is YES :-) DR1 should be able to accomodate most of it, plus some more. The hardware will be modular and user upgradable. We should have more info soon, please keep looking for announcements when we reach certain milestones. At this point that is all I can say.

How's this coming along?

Jeez, it seems like it's taking longer than the usual new product release, right?

I think I'm going to need to look at other options. I can only wait so long. Sorry. :(

Sorry. I went ahead and bought a Yaesu product. Do you know how long I've been waiting for this revolutionary new transceiver? 17 years! That's right, I cleared my table of "rif-raf" 17 years ago and still nothing. I'm starting to believe that there is a pretty good chance this radio will never be released. I never would have imagined that 17 years ago.
