RASON Radio Amateur Society of Norwich

We will be having our club field day event at our usual location, the one we have used for the past 5 or 6 years. The location is Pachaug State Forest in Voluntown, CT. We have a permit for a campsite there, and will have our usual array of both operating and sleeping tents. It is a terrific location, with great atmosphere and view. All amateurs and non-amateurs are welcome to visit our site, get some fresh air, and operate under terrific conditions.

Thanks,

-- Chip (N1MIE) - Newsletter Editor for RASON

STAMFORD ARA

Field Day will be held on Saturday and Sunday June 28 and 29, 2003. The location for SARA'a Field Day site is the Stamford Museum Observatory grounds. The observatory grounds entrance is on Scofieldtown Road in Stamford. To get there from downtown Stamford, travel North on High Ridge Road past the Merritt Parkway until you reach a fork in the road with a traffic light. Take the left fork (Scofieldtown Road) for a distance of about 1/2 mile. The entrance to the site will be an open gate on your right with a sign indicating SARA Field Day.

For those using the Merritt Parkway, exit at High Ridge Road (Exit 35) and head North to Scofieldtown Road. As above, take the left fork and proceed to the observatory entrance. Please note that the main entrance to the museum is at the junction of High Ridge and Scofieldtown roads, but do not use it. It will not lead you to the Field Day site. This Field Day we will be operating QRP using alternate power sources.. Solar, etc. We will be operating some of the newer digital modes as well as CW and SSB. Mark your calendar join us and have a great time operating. Hope to see you there.

A number of hams unaffiliated with a club are getting together to work with Metacomet District Boy Scouts at Sunrise Park in Suffield for Field Day. We plan to operate from noon Saturday through noon Sunday. We will be offering Radio Merit Badge training on Saturday, also Sunday if demand for it. If further information is needed, please contact Glen - KB1DNI -or me. I have cc:'ed Glen so you have his email address.

Stratford ARC

The Stratford Amateur Radio Club, W1ORS will be participating in FD, 2004 from our permanent club house located in Booth Park, Stratford, CT. We plan on being at the facility throughout the event, beginning setup Saturday morning and tearing down Sunday afternoon. The Stratford Amateur Radio Club, SARC/W1ORS has a proud 58-year-old tradition of community service and plans on continuing that tradition in 2004. We will probably be operating in the 3D category on all HF bands and some VHF bands.

Any additional questions may be forwarded to me at:
N1KPR at arrl.net
Thank you,
Bob Betts, secretary, SARC/W1ORS

Newington ARL

The Newington Amateur Radio Club (NARL) will be celebrating the 71st ARRL Field Day with an operation set up on the grounds of Cedar Crest Hospital, at the craggily peak of Cedar Mountain. The hospital is located on the north end of Russell Road in Newington, Connecticut. The Connecticut Human Society is located on the south end of Russell Road, and the Human Society is conspicuously visible on the west side of Route 5/15 (the Berlin Turnpike) just south of the Newington/Wethersfield town line (about 0.75 miles south of Hooters).

This year's operation will include two HF operating positions (one for 10/15/20 meters, and the second for the low bands: 40/80/160), and a single VHF (6 and 2 meters) position. Operating modes will be primarily SSB and CW, but some alternative modes such as digital (PSK-31, RTTY) and FM may also be explored. We will be signing W1OKY - our club call - and will report 2A (to reflect our two-HF-station entry category and our generator power source), Connecticut.

Set up will commence around 9 AM on Saturday, June 26, with on-air operations beginning at 2 PM (1800Z). Due to our pre-1800Z set-up time, the rules dictate that the operating duration must be limited to 24 hours (end at 2 PM/1800Z Sunday). Overnight camping/radio operation is, of course, permissible. Visits from public officials are likely around 2 PM on Saturday. NARL club members are highly encouraged to attend and operate (if even for the shortest of operating sessions), and everyone is welcome to participate.

CARA

Field Day is a major event for CARA, with a number of important objectives: (1) To test our ability as amateur radio operators to communicate under simulated emergency conditions; (2) To get as many club members as possible working together on a noble and useful club project, and (3) To have fun and make as many QSOs as possible during the operating event! CARA Field Day activities will begin Friday, June 25, at 6 p.m. at Brookfield Town Park on Candlewood Lake Road. The goal for Friday evening is to set up the food tent, lines for the wire antennas, and the big loop, G5RV and the Lazy H.

The club has made sure that key Brookfield town officials received a copy of "Ham Radio Today" narrated by Walter Cronkite, and an invitation to attend CARA's Field Day events. The operations we're setting up for Field Day will be a 2a and a GOTA station. The first 20 participants for the 2a operation will receive the 2004 Field Day pin and the first 10 participants for the Get On The Air station will receive a 2004 GOTA pin.

Sign-up sheets for operating and for set up will be on hand at the June 11 CARA meeting. The official contest period begins on Saturday June 26 at 2. p.m. and concludes at 2. p.m. on Sunday, June 27.

For further information, or to sign-up to help via e-mail, please contact John, W1JMA, at w1jma at arrl.net or 203-438-6782
