I just started converting my shack machine over to Windows ME and like your
experience with WIN2000, I find that a lot of the old DOS commands are no
longer supported in a DOS window from inside the Windows environment. I did
the following experiment and it seems to work although I have not tested it
thoroughly. Make an emergency boot disk and boot your computer from that.
You should then be able to get to the C: drive and the LOG directory and
everything should run OK. The problem is that making a simple boot floppy
is no longer possible under WIN-ME and WIN-2000 since </S> is no longer
supported under the FORMAT command. Another alternative would be to go to
an older WINDOWS 98 machine and make a "real" boot floppy from that and
then boot your WIN2000 machine from that floppy. Even if you could get the
thing to work under WIN2000 you may have problems with CW sending as
WIN2000 is an NT based OS which as many have noted can result in choppy and
erratic CW sending.
