  Rope  I have always use 1/8 woven Polly propylene in element tips 4 ft  
worked for me. Before that My  hi-Gain  204BA , 155 BA and 105 BA would loos 
tips every YEAR    there is minimal weight on the polly and is dose no absorb 
water

I looked at the manual and the tips appear to be Ø1/2" tubing with .049
wall, I am not sure what grade.  Perhaps upgrading to a .058 wall 6063-T8
aluminum tube would work better.  Do you have end caps that may be trapping
water?  Rope is also an option and probably a requirement for Hy-Gain beams.
