FWIW: I goofed up my first One-Shot when the molten fluid leaked out of the
bottom of the ceramic mold. I cut off the bad weld and tried again, this
time plugging ALL holes, including around the wires and the bottom ground
rod hole, with electrician's putty. The remaining dozen shots worked
perfectly.

I done it many times. As you suggest, pass the same gauge conductor through
the "unused" holes. Leave enough on one end so that if you wish to bond to
another connection point in the future, it can be done with another one-shot
or, -- silver-solder the new connection and use a pair of bronze split-bolt
connectors to easily align the conductors before soldering.
