Hi Phil:

*The manual I have for the controller states that rotor terminals 1 and 2 *

*are for Motor CW and CCW and the Ground and Positive are on
rotor terminals 3 and 4.*

3 and 4 are sense wires and they have a low voltage for the logic to
sense a high or low state
as the reed switch opens and closes.

The manual for the rotor states that rotor terminals 1 and 2 are for
motor drive and that 3 and 4 are for impulse sense.

Of this I can assure you that they are as stated.
Polarity isn't critical and it would be very hard to do any damage with
normal 12 to 24 vdc applied to any combination.

There is a troubleshooting section in the manual that verifies that the
reed switch is operational... put 12v on pins 1 and 2 to turn the motor
while hooking an ohmmeter on pins 3 and 4. It should vary between open and
about 1 k ohms.
