Could you try a friend's radio and see if it helps. I occasionally get to Farmington Hills, for business and/or pleasure, and could stop in and maybe try my Omni VII ... not sure when... but we could try it some day when I am headed your way. (I live in SW GR and have friends who live in Bloomfield, Auburn Hills and Rochester Hills.

Have you tried placing the matchbox out at or close to the feed point? I cannot offer a cogent reason it should matter...but it seems like it might help.

Have you tried different lengths of feed line - window line and coax, respectively? I won't recite all the reasons here, but you know how various lengths of feed line matter to impedance matching, etc. It would be a cheap experiment to add some and see what happens.

Have you tried covering all components and patch cables with alum foil? (OK... just kidding... but-cha never know...) ;-)

is it possible that this particular vintage of Omni VI option 3

same issue?
