I own both - love both. Normally use the Orion II on cw, but that's purely
subjective - version 2.0.8 (beta) of PowerSDR with my computer does great on
CW. However, I'm have a terrible time weaning myself off the point and
click tuning, especially for CW! So....I now have the best of both worlds -
wrote a little C++ app that syncs the Flex 5000A and the Orion II, so that
when I click on the PowerSDR panadapter, it tunes both the Flex 5K and the
Orion II. If I absolutely had to choose one or the other, it probably would
be the Flex 5K, but it would be a very difficult decision! I've owned the
Flex 5K for about 15 months, the Orion II for about 4 years.

All,

I realize that the two are very different realizations of transceivers, but
from an operating standpoint, does anyone have any experience or
observations? The cost is about the same for the two (or close enough
that I'm considering them both). Which "works" better? Ability to hear
signals, ability to transmit a signal that will be heard?

I've read reviews of both, but without hands-on experience, there's no way
for me to compare, and I don't want to buy both.

Thanks.

Frank
