to connect your Orion to your computer, either you need to have a serial
port or a USB to serial adapter. my Orions work well with either
arrangement in Windows.
Ubuntu 9.10 does not know what a USB to serial adapter is and will not
read that way. Ubuntu 9.10 works fine so long as there is a serial port
handy.
in WinXP i use MixW2 without problems. connecting via either source of
audio from the Orion works fine.
in Ubuntu 9.10 i use Xlog and Fldigi.
use the start settings from you Orion manual, but i find a bit more
audio out and in work better with my computer.
most any sound card now will work just fine. a few years ago that was
not the case.
