Ken my Century 21 has the hum in the headphones. I do not know if the hum
can be heard in the speaker as I always use phones with the C-21. I use the
MFJ-392B Headphones which have an impedance of 32 ohms and each phone has a
volume control. With my eight ohm Yaesu Headphones I get the HUM and can
not control the sidetone volume, the sidetone can take your head off.

It seems the MFJ-392B with volume control and 32 ohm impedance control the
hum and sidetone.
