Sorry for the off topic post (not really, I'm just trying to sound
sincere), but I just wanted to say something nice about 2 ham brothers
local to my community, and the work they did for me today.
I am in the process of selling my home (life support system for my ham
shack), and after no local hams made an offer on the place, I decided to
find someone to take my towers down. I hired Michael and Gary Koontz, 2
brothers that make up the younger generation of hams (they're in their 30's).
When I left for work this morning, I had standing a 70 foot crank-up with
the following antennas on it:
a 5 el 20m monobander
b 40m rotary dipole
c 5 el 15m monobander

I also had standing, 105 feet of Rohn 25, guyed, with the following on it:
a 5 el 15m monobander on a tic ring ring at 65 feet
b 7 el 15m monobander (44 foot boom) on top at 105 feet

When I came home tonight, everything was down. EVERYTHING. In 1 DAY!!
They even disassembled some of the antennas for me, stacked the 25 g,
rolled up the all cables and guy wires, and put the tower nuts and bolts in
a bucket for me.
These 2 hams do tower work on the side. They have no idea that I'm posting
this information. All I can say is that when I got home at 7 o'clock
tonight I was both shocked and impressed. So if you need tower work done,
and if you live in piedmont North Carolina, look these 2 guys up. Their
calls are KU4MC and KO0NTZ.

P.S. I have had both Orions. Both of them are works of art. Nothing wrong
with finding fault, but the horse was beat to death a while ago on most
issues. While y'all same guys are typing away on the internet everyday, the
ham bands grow more quiet.
Ham radio needs us, on the air, not on the internet.
