I don't know if this is an intended feature in Orion II but it may well be.
In Orion one if that ring gets loose you will most likely have an RFI/ac hum
disaster. Supposedly the Orion II mike input circuitry is such that they do
not utilize ground through the connector, so at least there will be no
problem if it slips--as long as you can tighten the mike.

Subject: [TenTec] Orion II - Loose mic connector threaded ring?

A friend received his Orion II a few weeks ago, and noted that the
threaded ring on the mic connector is "loose" - it seems to "hang there"
even though it allows you to tighten the mic (so far). An email response
from Paul Clinton says, "It's normal." That sounds kind of bogus to me.
I've had good experience with Paul in the past, so I'm not sure what is
going on. Have any other O2 users noticed this? Once the mic connector
is tightened down on it, it no longer is "loose." I can't imagine what
could be causing this. The 4-pin connector on my Orion does not have
this 'feature.'
