Hey Rick,

I think I know what you mean :-) The new (your old) Omni V reads S9+10
when my old one read S9. I'm thinking about getting the elecraft test
signal to set the meters BUT ... wait a minute. The S-meter ends up
being just a signal strength indicator with no real calibration. Why
bother adjusting S9 if values above and below that are not there. I
think I'll just leave it as is and keep operating

:-)

Well I must admit after owning an Omni V I pretty well gave up on
S-meter readings. About the ONLY place it was close was on 40 metres.
Otherwise it never agreed with my Argo V or any other receiver in the
shack. But then that reminds me of the man with 2 watches. A man with
one watch always knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never
sure! Perhaps the same can be said for S-meters!

If you look back through the archives there was a discussion on the
S-meter in the RX-340. Apparently that meter sampling circuit is about
as good as it gets!

Yes, but what worries me is that almost all the time using the same
antenna. my Argo 509, Triton-IV digital, Drake TR-5, Kenwood TS-430s and
R5000 all read within one S unit of each other. The needles are in
different spots, but the numbers are the same.
