Lamps used to be used to tune tube rigs and the window antenna in the very
old handbooks. (this feature was not in the handbook)
The directions for the Amceo AC1 call for a #49 pilot bulb and 5 feet of wire
each side of the long wire to be tuned.
I am using twin lead to load a zepp. I put a 4w (115v) bulb in series. When
the bulb lights the rig is tuned. The bulb is removed from the circuit.

An OT showed me how he measures soup. He has a #47 pilot bulb in a socket.
the socket is on the end of the dowel. A small loop is attached to each end of
the socket. Tune til the bulb lights. also used to check on the soup going
out the antenna.

light bulbs fell into disfavor when transiters came in. I sort of liked the
light bulb approach but solid state finals did not. sigh

dit did
