I've been using an RV deep cycle battery for the past 5 years to power an
Omni VI+ and a Hercules amp. Using a standard 25 amp Astron pwr supply to
keep the battery charged. I monitor the charging current. The battery
supplies the 80+ amps needed by the Herc and the Omni VI++ and even if I
transmit continuously for 10 minutes, the charging current rarely exceeds 8
amps. It's works fine, but you have to monitor the battery electrolye level
regularly and add water as required. Before it realized this, I'd ruined
one battery by allowing it to go almost dry. Otherwise, batteries seem to
last about 3-4 years.
