I thought I had posted this but apparently it didn't make it...lost in
cyber-space.  Let's try again.
When I bought my land in Belize my location was totally quiet.  In the past
three or four weeks line noise has come up.  Located the pole which was the
cause.  The power company has been out twice to fix it but can find nothing
wrong.  The have inspected the pole, checking the usual things...loose
connections, bad arrestors etc and could find nothing.
However, there is a drop from the transformer to several meter boxes below it.
They are all in one big panel box which the power company will not open to
inspect since the panel box is not owned by them.
The RFI is as strong at that panel box as uit is next to the ground wire of the
pole...very nasty.
Could there be something in the meter box (connections etc.) causing this.  In
order to have them open the box the owner must file for a disconnect, which iof
course means $$.  Then the owner will need to have an electrician inspect and
tighten...again $$.  Of course the owner will not pay for this so I will have
to.
One other thing I forgot to mention...sometimes, like today it is way down,
other days it isn't.  No special pattern.  Some rainy day it is bad, others it
isn't.  Only discernable pattern is that it occurs a little more often in the
daytime...but not much more.  Today it is only s-0 to S-1 without the preamp
on.  On bad days it is S-3-4.  Measurements are on 10 meters with the antenna
facing the pole.  Of course it is worse on 160 and 80.
Question...Is it worth the time and money to do this?  Things are quite a bit
cheaper in Belize.
By the way, the two buildings that the meters are connected to are electrically
RFI quiet.
Any thoughts?
