Hi Scott - I should have mentioned that.  As far as I can tell, each of the frequencies is very stable.  When I finally find it, this is going to be a weird one!

Hi Pete,

Is the frequency stable, or does it drift around?

While I wait for the preamp needed to use my WD8DSB portable flag to pin it
down, I thought RFI readers might be interested in some more data.

The signal is present every 50 KHz from approximately 5000 KHz to about 7800 KHz,
strongest at around 6450 KHz. On each of these frequencies it consists of a relatively
strong central signal and multiple symmetrical "sidebands" spaced 60 Hz apart.
At the strongest frequency, it is clear that the every-120-Hz sidebands are stronger than
those at 60-Hz intervals, and that their strength tapers fairly rapidly as you tune
further from the center

The other thing I have discovered is that it is quite local. No DF capability
yet on HF, but If I go a mile or so away from my QTH, it is not audible on a
decent portable SW receiver. Tried yesterday to quasi-DF it, walking the
neighborhood using signal strength, but with inconclusive results. It begins
every morning at 0900:02 local time, and continues well after sunset, both of
which tend to suggest it is on some sort of timer.

Do these rather unusual characteristics suggest what kind of an emitter I might
be looking for, or must I just wait for the DF hardware?
