40 has been 'strange' lately. In the mornings, AM from the orient has been
a killer, obliterating all but the strongest signals. Even using the Half
Moon Bay remote (LO WebSDR HF radio receiver system, with its excellent
filters) to listen, hearing the Baja Maritime Net, on 7233.5, at 0800 local
(Pacific Coast) is an exercise is frustration!

At this point, since no one else heard it, I suspect it is "local", but,
BOY!, is the signal ever weird!!! I've never heard anything even remotely
like it.
At times, it sounds, literally, like a steam-engine's chuffing at a low
level across the entire band, while at other times, it sounds almost like a
keyed, horribly unstable, CW transmitter at S-8 to S-9, followed by some
periodically-recurring very wideband, drifty data transmission.
Then it as suddenly disappears at it appears.
It is going to be difficult for me to track down.
Furthermore, it is "new", as I spend a lot of time on 40 meters and have
never experienced it before.
So far, due to its relatively short duration, I have not been able to
discover it on any other band than 40 meters.
Keeping my fingers crossed...
