I borrowed one from a friend this week and if there is no loud noise, there
is no meter movement or sound except for a slight background. With noise,
the sound is predominately louder before the meter reading is high. I use a
small radio shack audio amp so the sound can be heard without earphones so I
can have another person hear it such as utility company personnel. Tonight
I used the antenna to see if I could hear my power line noise and it worked
only when I put the elements vertical. I also have the dipole version that
I have used for years and the amplified sound sometimes sounds louder than
the meter shows. I have been at power poles where the meter is pegged. I
also have heard noise through the speaker that gave no reading on the meter.
I notice the MFJ warranty says to pay for the shipping back to you, at least
on my new voice keyer device.
