Here's what a friend near the Detroit area told me about ATT's Uverse a 
while back:

"It's a long story, but after AT&T techs threw in the towel on my rig 
scrambling the brains of the residential gateway (fancy modem) I built a 
faraday cage around the box with aluminum window screen and a very good 
ground and it solved the problem. "
