Whirlpool called back and they're sending me a new motor and controller
to replace the existing on to rule out the possibility that my unit is
defective.
The person who called ("Mike") also said that his recollection is that
the front panel is thick plastic and there is no foil or metal backing
to it.
He also said they have had no problem reports of AM or FM radio
interference, lending credence to the theory that my unit is defective.
At least I will get to look inside it when their authorized service
representative opens it up.
