The best is if you can get part of a call and stick with it until you work
them and don’t come back to others calling out of turn. Don’t come back to
someone calling over the station you are working. Don’t reward bad behavior
by calling them. Sometimes you will have to to get a very loud station out
of the way, but wait until a a standby. Occasionally stand by for other
continents which may have weaker signals. Keep tight control over the
pileup. Some like to standby a little longer and get several calls at one
time.
This is all I can think of at the moment. Others may want to add to this or
critique what I said. It’s not an exact science. I think there are
recordings on YouTube of amazing stations like Jim at ZD8Z.
