Sometimes they just know!
If one spends some time on the bands here and there outside of the
contests, one will learn how the bands "work."

And sometimes it really is cheating! Look carefully at claimed versus
published scores and when you see one "disappear," you should scratch your
head and wonder why. It isn't always a mistake!
