You too can join in the fellowship of our new 12 step program
for unethical power abusers - Power Anonymous.

                    The 12 steps to recovery:

#1) Admit to your self that you have a problem - the 1st step to
     recovery.

#2) Admit that life as a QRPer really sucked. But, the guilt
brought about by running gas is worse.

#3) Give your soul over to a higher power ham in your neighborhood,
(however you perceive him/her/it to be).

#4) Prostelize(sp?) to all you meet of how your life changed when
you met the Old Timer from Galilee on 14205.

#5) Take each day: one watt at a time.

 #6) I forgot this one.

#7) Have your wattmeter recalibrated by bird. Thats why two birds
are better one. (a bird in hand is better than two in the bush,
     or something like that, hiccup).

#8) Promise to make amends to all you have stepped on in previous
contests. Offer to buy them a beer at Dayton.

#9) Pass out PA bumper stickers at Dayton.

#10) If you must fall off the wagon, put the wattmeter in Ref position.
This way you'll absolve yourself of all guilt *and* responsibility.

#11) Call the ARRL and ask for an OO application. Then you can give out
reports to your hi power buddies. Transferred guilt is better than
     personalized guilt.

#12) Promise to never touch another 4CX-5000 again.

Enuff, already...

The above statement is simply not true. While it is true that you cannot
use the tuner to bring the loop into operation on say 20 M when it is self
resonant on 30 15 or 10, you can indeed use the rig's internal autotuner to
retune the loop to appear like 50 ohms when the loop is resonant in the
band you are on and tuned close enough to your operating frequency that the
radio's internal tuner can manage the transformation. The only penalty in
so doing is slightly increased feedline loss. On the HF bands, the
increased loss in the feedline (unless you are running a very poor or very
very very long feedline) is small enough to be unimportant.

I have used the autotuner to retune the loop antenna extensively using both
the AEA and the MFJ antenna with no bad effects. The result is that almost
all of the CW band on all the HF bands is useable without retuning the
loop. Only radios that do not route the receive signal through the
internal tuner (someday I want someone at Kenwood to explain why they do
this) will show any noticeable effect of being slightly off the frequency
that the loop is tuned to.
