At the Intel emergency communications shack we measured 1W of
1170 KHz across a 50 ohm resistor at the feed line to our low band
wire. Needless to say, our receivers begged for mercy. I built
a transmit-through-worthy version of the eliptical BC filter in
the handbook and it does the job nicely (even for 160). In retropect,
this was a dumb move. I should have built a set of bandpass fiters
for the the ham bands, which would have helped with occasional
inter-station interference problems.

P.S. The fun part: we realized we had BC station overload when we
tuned to 10 MHz WWV and heard Mexican music. We briefly considered
the possibility of a programming change on their part, but quickly
discounted that as unlikely.

Hi,
Well I been here in the state for three years now. I remember the first
thing I did when I got out of the plane in MIA, was turn my HT on. Well I
was suprised to hear that is not diferent between the repearters here in
this area and YV Land.

When I attend my First meeting here on our local dx club, a friend told
me, you better get on packet, because that is were you going to find us.
Back in home My dx club use a 147.70 (Simplex) as a dx spot frequency, so
I assumed that will be something like that here too. Well It is and at
the same time is NOT!, because our dx club repeater is on, but has no
body on frequency.

So my I decided to take my friends advise and go to packet, since then,
is very weird to see me keying the PTT on my HT.

I attentd to my first field day last year, and was a quite expirience
for me, but I got quite frustrated when I heard the Novices talk about
that when you are in a pileup during a regular day of the week, that is
contest!.

Well now, every time I go out of town, I bring my portable packet station
with me.

If we could set the schedule up such that it matched the solar cycles
and made the winter months fall during the solar lows, I think we
would set records for lack of participation. :)

Dave,

The contester class might help some but I am more in favor of putting field
day on an 11 or 13 month schedule so that the time of year cycles through
all the seasons.

Problem with this is that every time the sunspot cycle is at a peak, FD
will be scheduled for January. Who wants to put up 9 mono- and tribanders
in the middle of January in the East? Steve KO0U/4

I've used three TS-850's at multi-op efforts in the past year. Two of
them have crapped out during the contest. Not a good track record.

Anybody else have similar or opposite experience with TS-850's? Three
is not a very big sample size; it could just be a fluke. 73. --John/K2MM
