That was fun.
The support ropes for the antenna went up Saturday late morning and the antenna
wire early afternoon. As sunset was closing in I was getting wonky SWR readings
and I ended up rebuilding the feed point left outside from last year - I now
have a handful of M5 hardware covered in various kinds of oxidation, replaced
with new 10-24 bolts, spacers, hex nuts, and wing nuts, and what couldn't be
removed got scrubbed with a wire brush. With that issue resolved and with the
sun setting, I saw that the antenna was too short and extended it with a Wago
connector. It's good to know that Wago connectors will hold power, at least at
the far end of an antenna, and I think that it will stay up there as an
experiment.
