Comments:

After some recent mechanical problems with my second tower and no antennas for
the HF bands I decided to try and get all the contest antennas onto the other
100ft tower which supports my LF antennas. I had a couple of weeks to get it
done but the weather in the lead up to the contest was very hot, not ideal at
all for trying to get tower work and antennas completed. On the day before the
contest it was 39c (102f). It was an early start at sunrise and I had great help
from my amazing XYL Julie as we worked hard all day in the sweltering heat
managing to get everything finished as darkness fell. I was sorting the cabling
and directional switch box for the stacked HF wire beams and checking the LF
antennas too when I discovered that the 80/160m dipole had an open circuit on
the feedline somewhere up the tower. At midnight local with the contest due to
start in 8 hours I realised that this year SOAB was not going to be possible. I
decided to go with 40m Single Band and all was going well until late on the
second night when we had local lightning storms which forced me to close down at
1500z. Unfortunately these rolled on until the early morning precluding any
further activity on 40m. Looking forward to next year with both towers in
operation.
