W6PH wrote in a 3830 sometime last year 'I don't have another cycle peak
left'...
With that in mind the group formed around Kurt to give him a great cycle 25 peak
experience and Bill (W9KKN) to get max MS points for WRTC. We had our stalwart
BIC man W4IX and Mike, KC7V, come together to form the team.
Bill had some cool ideas in mind for our MOAS to improve. With huge help from
Marty, NN1C, and Paul, K1XM, he was able to bring some of the recent
improvements to ND7K that had recently been perfected at ZF1A. The MOAS Genius
Cartel did not disappoint! We had newly improved features that none of us had
imagined in the shack! Thank you boys!
We thought that maybe we'd be able to claim the Z3 USA record if the DXpeditions
and propagation allowed. Our previous M2 QSO totals gave us hope that we could
brute force it if not... but the Mults just kept flowing!
AA7A down in Safford... wow! It was great watching those boys kick butt from Z3
on the scoreboard. Saturday night I was making a point to work the Mult radio
and AA7A would often be heard working them just a step ahead!
So basically the guys gathered and Bill setup a phenomenal station around the
Icom 7610's and MOAS. The boys agreed on a non-written operation schedule where
the Run, Inband, and Mult 7610 would not be unmanned until when it made sense.
With no tech problems the team did their thing and had a lot of fun! Post
contest XE dinner treated by W6PH has become a holiday traffic nightmare
delight!
Thanks to W2FU for being on the scoreboard to let us know not to be disappointed
when the 3830 dust settled! Jeff, your GHE hardware continues to push this
station's capabilities... thank you for your continued excellent support.
Hat's off to the 2014 VE7GL team... what a great Z3 operation they had that kept
pushing us to op hard! We'll see after log checking how it finals!
