This was a teaching,learning and introduction into contesting, contest! We had
the privileged of sharing our station with two couples, one of which we
introduced into the sport of contesting and learning the operation of our
station. The second couple who were already contesters but had never operates a
multi two stations before and who said they had never turned a beam with a
rotor. They also began learning the station's operation. We also had our
visually handicap op from WV who did an outstanding job making Q'S and who has
become comfortable with station operation.
We had no equipment issues this time but no matter how hard I tried I could not
sign into the Contest Score Board with the xyl's call N3DPB. I gave up after
and hour of trying even though we had used her call on the score board before.
Despite that we all had a great time.
The food was excellent due to my son cooking pit beef on the grill that the CW
ops assembled during the MD QSO party since they could find enough stations to
work. lol
Using the exchange "Susan Maryland" invoked some interesting
responses. Some refused to believe a male operator was using "Susan"
for a name. I expect some NIL because of that. Others took multiple times to
accept until I said it's my XYL's call sign. Maybe next time I when we get a
request for a name repeat I will send the Female voice "Susan
Maryland." That should really confuse them but they might get it the first
time!
