Comments:

10m ended up being a no show at this station. 15m had prop to the west, NW and
some Caribbean and Central America, but very little activity. Called CQ there
early in the contest for way too long without a Q and finally moved to 20. 20
was packed, but nowhere to find a slot to CQ so just S&Pd. 40 was rocking
here in the evening but very hard with this single vertical radiator to find and
hold a freq. Finally late in the evening, an op I worked on 40 spotted me, (only
spot of my call I ever saw), and I had an 8 minute flurry of 18 Qs before it all
dried up. Back to S&Ping. 80 was pretty much a no go, as the 80m resonator
is tuned for the CW portion of the band. Murphy did make a haunting appearance
early on. I noticed my noise floor dropping slightly by about 5db every now and
then, as well as stations would lose my signal sporadically. Spent an hour
tracing down coax connections from the shack out to the antenna...lots of
plumbing! Should have started at the antenna first. 6BTV is mounted on a sloped
area in back yard where rain water puddles. With all the flooding rains we've
had, muddy waters, (not the singer!), had penetrated the PL259 connector at the
radial plate connection of the 6BTV, and formed pocket of "gummy mud"
inside the PL259. Was able to do a quick clean, but I'll have to replace that
connector and do a better job of water sealing this time!

Thanks for all the Qs and hanging in there to copy my exchange!

73 Gene, N9TF
K3S 100 watts to 6BTV on the ground.
