Comments:
This contest is an interesting one.
Smack-dab in the middle of the summer when contesting conditions aren’t
generally that great. And then there’s that pesky 10 minute in-jail rule for
M/S: every time you change band or mode to get a mult or test the waters. And
M/S is forced to enter as mixed-mode although, try phone as we might, over 80%
of the action was on CW.
On the plus side: the contest is only 24 hours long. And the bands can surprise
you... like when 20 starts off pretty lame, only to surprise you with a
high-bandwidth connection (OK, it’s CW) throughout the night into Europe. And
that’s what saved our bacon this year.
We wound up surpassing our previous year’s M/S score by almost 50 percent.
Along the way, our claimed score (almost 1.9M) surpassed the previous Zone 6
M/S record (1.7M) established in 2021 by W7RM (Bill, K2PO, and Alex, KU1CW
ops). We may wind up with a new NW division record, but we didn’t even come
close to winning the zone for M/S. ND7K -- who were in M/S category this year
-- blew the barn doors off the previous Zone 7 M/S record with a claimed of
about 2.4M. When them Arizona Outlaws ride through town, all we typically see
is the backsides of their horses and the dust they kick up as they ride off
into the sunset: they always do a fantastic job.
