Comments:

I set up everything in the barn as always: 25 foot high 80-meter
open-wire fed dipole strung between the house-adjacent tree and a pole
leaning on another tree and a full sized 40-meter vertical with 32
radials. My dipole is an 80-meter dipole paralleled by a 40-meter
wire separated 3 inches with PVC spacers. I don't know what this
arrangement is called, but the result provides a better match with the
Johnson KW Matchbox.

Conditions on 20 seemed down at the beginning but improved later.
Saturday night QRN on 80 was really awful and even disturbed 40
somewhat.

Slept the usual 4 hours except for when the mouse on my operating
table made too much noise.

10 meters seemed to be absent except for some probably sporadic-E to
Florida and Texas.

No UT or KL7. Various VE provinces missing. Best DX was Europe on 2
bands and Chile. Nice to get a couple of QSOs from a loud PJ2ND.

In 3830 posts from previous years I complained that my Field Day QSO
totals have been trending downward.  Some analysis reveals no trend;
just year-to-year variations shadowed by the exceptional year 2020.

Here are my QSO totals by band for all the Field Days I have done from
my barn.

    Year 80 40 20 15 10 Total
    2023 232 609 307 95 7 1250
    2022 321 627 265 98 14 1325
    2021 314 658 270 123 22 1387
    2020 357 846 50 227 48 1528
    2019 251 639 158 84 25 1157
    2018 235 637 268 78 41 1259
    2017 291 661 282 137 0 1371

If one ignores pandemic lock-down year 2020, then a pattern seems to
emerge. 40 meters is the work-horse band and I get an average 639
QSOs every year. 80 meters is the second most productive band but 80
often suffers from extreme static which reduces its contribution. 20
meters is the third most productive band and its contribution varies
for a lot of reasons.

Equipment: new Elecraft K4D, not-so-new Samlex power supply, old
laptop with the one true serial port, old IBM Model M keyboard with
flaky Alt key, old Acer LCD monitor because the laptop screen is too
far away, old Johnson Viking KW Matchbox, old 80-meter dipole, old 40
meter vertical over 32 radials and old man operator.

I should qualify for the 100% emergency power, W1AW bulletin, and web
submission bonuses (250 points) which is included in the 3830 post.
