Comments:

I wanted to use my IC-7100 for this contest, but ran out of time getting all
configured. So, I brought up the IC-7610 to get some 6 meter contacts on FT8,
only to find that that was not working correctly. I then tried the same setup
that I used the previous week for the Digital contest and that worked. So, I
just changed the contest setup portion and started late. Tried a couple of
answering CQ on FT8 using WSJT-X through N1MM+, but no answers. What is not
working? Then, Jerry (W1IE) called me at 3:20PM local. He was followed shortly
by Mark, (N2QT) at 3:22PM, then Henry (K4YCR) called at 3:38PM. That was the
extent of the locals I worked. I spent a lot of time transmitting not to be
answered by the ones I was decoding. I was running 100 watts into a
Cushcraft_A50-5S (modified) at about 40 feet or the Stepper @ 60 feet. I did
not see a drastic difference. So, I pointed the SteppIR toward the North East
and the Cushcraft West and manually switched to try and see a difference. I
stayed on the Cushcraft most of the time. I did work to the end of the contest
and put in a little over 5 hours. There was a couple of time that my contacts
were quick, but most of the time was spent transmitting with no contacts. I
suppose that is the way of 6 meters, but it was disappointing. Did see quite a
few decodes in the -24dB to -27dB range, which I don't normally see. I would
not call anyone below -16dB because I thought it would be worthless. Anyone who
says FT8 or FT4 is too easy has not worked this contest. Now, to find out why
my first setup did not work and get back to the IC-7100 setup working for Field
Day.
