Comments:

I think its fair to say there were some unusual conditions in this contest.
Depending on the band, that could have ranged from amazing (with angels singing)
all the way to what the heck happened here. 15 meters was a star this go round,
at least the first 24, and 10 sort of failed to thrive. Low bands were
difficult and noisy.. 20 at par or slighly less so the balance of qsos shifted
from last year, and the good upper band conditions boosted our score.

Bob K3EST and Myself handled contest coordination duties, with some
spreadsheet/schedule help from Dave WD6T.

Although the core RO team prefers on site ops, a few of our team came in via
remote, for various reasons. for the team members that were on site, it was
really great to have that on site camaraderie, team work and fun.

There is no way I can cover all the interesting stuff that happened on the bands
this weekend, so lets take a dive in the words of our contest team. except for
K3EST who said 10 sucked. nuff said. well not.

10M- K3EST dedicated Op (40 hs qrv on the band). 10 was a dissapointment, but
we did get a few EU in the log, but generally the domestic callers and
subsequent prefixes were a no show. some JA, and Solid openings to Oceania.
Bob wins the Iron butt award for pulling 300+ qsos out of......

15M- N6WM dedicated - 40 hs chair time. The first 24 hours on 15 meters were
nothing short of EPIC and AMAZING. at the contest start the band was literally
open globally. and it remained open past midnight, did it even close.. a bit..
enuf to grap a couple hours sleep. Sat AM in W6, still nuts, still open
everywhere.. JA still calling EU calling.. Middle east... HZ 20 over at the stn.
off the hook. I think maybe I worked most of the Amateurs in Kazakhstan.
things got a bit subdued periodically starting mid day sat, slipping into
"normal" but wow. better than usual condx most of the time.. just...
wow.

20M WD6T/K7GK captains. in their words-- WD6T sez -- Complex summer
propagation. Europe very good first night. Asia opened very late, far past
their noon.

K7GK{Sat} sez
Saturday morning started with a mix of JA and domestic QSOs with a few other
Asian stations. While Europe was open, I wasn't getting calls from there,
despite beaming there most of the time. After the first 4 hours or so of
relatively good rates, daytime on 20 was just slow. The remainder of the time
until the sundown brought in rates no higher than 30Qs/hour. Even when the prop
to Europe opened up a bit in the afternoon, it was only possible to work big
stations. Even that was a challenge, usually requiring multiple repeats. In a
somewhat curious 4-minute stretch in the morning, working a 3W and a VR2 didn't
bring any new mults, while working AE4 and AK1 did. Such as life in WPX.

WD6T-- Second night took longer to open to Europe, with extreme flutter, signals
weaker but then suddenly came booming in around 6:30z, then suddenly faded
again. Even local signals like KA6BIM had extreme flutter. CME effect?
Sunday morning stayed open to Asia for a long time, but they often couldn’t
hear me, as were probably beaming Europe. Sunday Daytime to Europe marginal
until the last two hours; where first the British Isles, then W. Europe became
workable. SO2V hepful in keeping the CQ fires burning while picking off mults
and DX. * there was uncredited op time by N6RO.

40M- WX5S Captain with WU6P. WX5S says atmospherics and flutter were difficult.
we do have a stn interference prob from 40 >> 15 also. Matt did a great
job raking what he could in. WU6P covered the first couple hours on 40, but
only worked a few.

80M/160- N6RO Captain with WU6P on 80
N6RO -- graveyard shift Friday night; extreme QRN made for a difficult night,
but had decent JA run. Some HOTSHOTS on the east coast called in at 40 wpm when
below static crashes. others would not come back when I sent 'agn' Sending
speed must go down when S/N goes down.

 WU6P sez-
80m at 1st day is reasonably ok. No high throughput hours, but can get constant
Qs through the night.
160m at late half of 1st night is not productive at all. Calling CQ but did not
hear anything back.

RO conludes-
Second night I did an all- nighter on 80 with better prop and lower noise to USA
and OC, but poor to JA (Sake didn't help). Did a SO3RC (rolling chair)
80/160/20 from 1 AM to 5. VR2 and BY couldn't hear me. So, Nian and me set a
new 80m record for the stn in this contest. Great job by all.

So there you go. This effort was just shy of the W6 MM set in 2015, but we are
not at peak yet ;-). Thank you all for the cw, the qsos, and the fun. Thanks
to N6RO for the Stn and Spaghetti for onsite team. We had a great time watching
VC7J creep up and kick us in to high gear. online scoreboard is great!

for the entire NR6O contest team

73 and see ya next time!!!
