Park portable - Elecraft KX3 5W QRP, 9.5m vertical 9:1 EFHW (in tree).
My focus in my limited operating time was 10-15-20m from 0z until local sunset
(5z). 10 meters was excellent at 0z - I was able to run a frequency for about 30
minutes and I had collected 38 QSOs in the first hour. Very quickly, conditions
deteriorated and it became difficult to contact anyone on any frequency band.
I took a break to work FT8/FT4, and could see the weaker signal strengths of JA
stations on 10 and 15 meters. Signals on 24 MHz remained excellent to Japan. I
returned to the contest around 02z and made another 15 QSOs in 75 minutes with
difficulty.
I again changed to WARC-band digital for about 90 minutes, then returned to CW
at sunset - 0445z. Conditions had not changed much. I made 5 more contacts in 20
minutes, and dismantled my station.
The CW skimmers in Hawaii and USA West Coast were not picking up many Japan
stations between 0100-0500, and almost all of those were stations I had
contacted in the first hour. Most of the signal strengths reported were quite
weak for contest stations. I knew my tiny transmitter was going to be
ineffective.
Despite the erratic propagation, I still managed many more contacts than I had
last year. It was a great honor to contact my amateur radio friends in Japan. I
look forward to participating next year. It would be nice if the contest had a
QRP entry classification.

報告された信号強度のほとんどは、コンテスト
ステーションにとって非常に弱いものでした。

日本のアマチュア無線の友達に連絡できて光栄でした。
来年も参加できることを楽しみにしています。
コンテストにQRPのエントリー区分があればいいのに。
