That was a good weekend of playing on the radio. Conditions were pretty solid
at my QTH. Each night featured about 60-75 minutes where I could work stations
in Europe starting around 0445z. Friday night was mainly Zone 14, while
Saturday was Zones 15/16. I ended up with 23 EU QSO's, which is pretty good for
my 100 watts. Two of those were new DXCC on 160 meters for me - MJ5E and LX7I.
I'm now at 98 countries.
Conditions in the US were good. The contest started slow, but I finally made it
out west later on Friday night, and Saturday was decent, too. There were a
couple states that I just couldn't get, no matter how many times I called.
Heard but not worked: ID, WY, LA, VE4, VE7
Never heard: DC, ND, NU, NWT, YT, KL7
In order to fight the terrible noise at my QTH, I switched a couple of dipoles
in to use as listening antennas. It actually worked pretty well. I had one
dipole where the noise went from S9+ to zero. That was the only way I was able
to hear and then work Europe.
Thanks to everyone for the contacts. I enjoyed watching the scoreboard and
chasing N3HEE and WO1N. Congrats to all of the high scorers.
