Now that's Entertainment !!

Last year ssb contacts were plenty while FT8 was very few. This year it was
the other way around.
I tried a ssb contact up North to Bill, K0AWU (400 miles) but nothing heard,
We tried the secondary mode FT8 and signals were much better than expected.
Contact was made very easy. Also while pointing North I made ssb contact to
Matt, KA0PQW. He always has a great ssb signal here.
I even made a couple FM contacts to some locals. I spun to the East to catch
K9JK/R but nothing heard. I was on the ON4KST chat page and set up a FT8 try
with Walt, AJ6T. After a few minutes of nothing, I figured out I was still on my
vertical FM beams. I switched to the horizontal ssb beams and his signal along
with many others came in plenty strong. Contact was made along with NV4B/R who
was out past 450 miles. Also made contact to AG4V at over 450 miles. Things were
great to the Southeast, so it was no surprise that AA9MY about blew out my
speaker with his huge signal. I spun back towards the East and found K9JK/R on
ssb. worked him in all 4 grids. Even found K9MRI and his huge ssb signal booming
in for another contact. Greg, WQ0P contacted me on the ON4KST chat page for a
ssb try. His signal is always strong coming in here so It was very easy to
complete the contact. The rest of the evening was spent working a few here and
there on FT8 or ssb. MSK144 try with K1WHS was attempted. I got 3 good decodes
from him, then nothing. He said he was on wrong antenna, (been there/done that
!) So we tried again towards the end. Only got one decode this time as time ran
out. Bummer. Maybe next time. Need more rocks !!! This was more fun than the 144
sprint. Hope 432 sprint is good. Until we meet again. 73, Dan in Iowa, EN41go
