Comments:

The primary goal this weekend was just to get out of mowing 2 acres of grass and
avoiding the honey-do list. (hi)

The secondary goal was to test the recently rebuilt 15m array. It's a small
diamond shaped wire 4-square built around a central mast of about 24' in
height.

(stretch goal, 1k Q's + 1.1M pts, and to beat my previous 15m record score from
2013 (456k pts)

Achieved all goals !

Fri: Ran for 1 hr then the band pretty much died (this was in stark contrast to
what we've been treated to the past few weeks). I think the K index shot way up
and Ol' Sol burped at us. No JA's.

Sat: Felt like the NAQP with a few (weak) EU big guns tossed in for good
measure. Was 90% USA, maybe 5% PY and CA/Carib and 5% EU. No 2nd or 3rd tier
stns worked on Sat. A long line of T-storms moved in at supper time and just
kept comin' so I just shut down for the night as I had already lost a few hours
and prop was fading anyways (better to save the gear than work 50 or 60 more
stations.) No JA's.

Sun: Struggled hard all day to get mini runs going. I think it was 10:30am local
time before I worked my first DL1 for a mult. I recall being quite surprised as
I sipped my mid morning coffee. I worked one OH and one LA, zero TF/JW/OX/OY and
1 only one big SM M/M (that I recall). 2 x ES's were but a whisper in my
headphones.
Lost a fair # (too many) of Q's due to deep QSB or guys not responding when I
asked for them to repeat their serial #, ...and so it goes.

I think the only time I saw really STRONG signals from EU was just before
starting out early Sunday morning, about an hour or so after SR. A couple
9A's/S5's and others in that area were all S9+, so I hopped in the shower, then
had a quick coffee and toast and came back ~15mins later to a 15m band that had
a 40dB pad applied to it ! What the ??

EU sigs did perk up a little bit at their SS Sunday night...very late in the
game.(most on 20 or 40 by then I am sure)

On the plus side, I got out of mowing grass and fixing stuff for a weekend and
was able to play on the radio for a while with old friends (some in disguise
behind funky callsigns), new friends and see how the rebuilt antenna works under
AU afflicted condx. Needs minor tweaking.

It's no stack like at VY2ZM, K1LZ or VE3EJ but it does OK for quite literally 4
vertical dipoles <on a stick>< in my best Jeff Dunham voice>.

On the weird side I had 2 different EA's call me 4-5 times each inside of an
hour. (KU2M will explain why this happened on the last day of the contest). That
was just bizarre. Maybe someone just playing around with their callsigns? They
were known contesting callsigns and not weak w. QRM/QSB or anything. Shenanigans
!

Took lots (too many) of really long breaks that played havoc with my off times
in my logger.

One radio, one VFO, one antenna ,no telnet/packet and zero bandchanges.

I am still looking for a 10m 4-square array to have 4-squares on all bands here.
Who's got a used one collecting dust?

p.s.- Just say 'no' to cut #'s in serial # contests.

73 es CU (all of a sudden!) in the next one.
