Comments:
Daytime conditions were poor on 20, not favorable on 40, just a bit too far from
MI from here near DC. There was not much to do from 18-21Z, so I had a leisurely
lunch and took the XYL out for a ride most of the 20Z hour. I also made quick
sweeps looking for ONQP stations and worked 76 during the MIQP. Finally, 40
improved at 21Z and the QSO rate sharply increased. I had a good run from
2225-2359Z on 40 SSB. 80M activity was disappointing on both modes especially
SSB, a pattern that seems to repeat itself from other recent QP's. By 0234Z,
there seemed to be nothing left to scrape up, so I QRT'ed feeling pretty tired
after a busy Friday.
As AD8J said, the mobiles were sorely missed; high gas prices and the holiday
may have discouraged mobiles. Easter weekend is a bad fit with ham radio
activities, I am certain that activity would have been better in the
"open" weekend that follows thanks to 5 weekends in April. The good
news is that in state fixed activity was down a bit, but enough to keep stations
interested.
There was the ever present issue of extensive "flowers" to end a QSO,
but no call sign given in that wasted verbiage during which the op could have
said thanks and given his call at least 2 times, very annoying. Thanks to all of
the MI ops for the QSO's.
