We had to wait since ARRL SSB 2020 to travel to and operate as HB0A. We allowed
ourselves a free day before the contest which meant we travelled on Thursday.
The weather was nice during the second part of the trip when the fog finally
cleared in southern Germany and the autumn colours stood out in the sun.

On Friday three of us ventured to hike to the Garsellikopf, a summit on the
border between HB0 and OE9. For Rens and Claudia it was the first time to visit
that one (2105m asl). The only downside was the cold wind.

Traditionally we met for dinner with the team on the Friday before the contest.
This time André selected a restaurant that certainly qualifies as "fine
dining". The main course was a seasonal saddle of venison...!

The planned start at 02:00 local was postponed to 08:00. Waldemar HB0WR started
on the high bands. We had read several warnings about the upcoming impact of the
CME... Honestly we did not feel the bands went down at any point in the contest.

Especially running on the low bands was hard work, because of the large (EU)
crowds that kept calling and calling. Sometimes we needed to call a station 10
times before they responded. I suppose K1LZ would not have made the remark
"NO RX" in the cluster spot if he knew what kind of signal levels we
had on our end.... :-)

Sunday at 15Z the QSO count was just over 2000 and we set ourselves a target to
beat our all time best score of 2510Q's (from 2018). Just before 21Z that was a
fact. From that point onwards it was just a matter of improving the new record.

We'll be back in 4 weeks for the CW leg, our favourite :-)

Best 73
Waldemar HB0WR
André HB9DVZ
Rens PA3FGA
Claudia PA5CT
Aurelio PC5A
