Comments:

The September VHF is a contest that typically wouldn't work from Atlantic Canada
without MSK144. Absent Es, in distant Nova Scotia, FT8 shows occasional decodes,
but mostly just meteor pings with millisecond durations far too short for FT8 to
decode. VE1PZ, Doug in FN85 and VE1SKY, FN74 tried to get stations to run
MSK144 with us on 6 & 2 meteors. Most stations were busy working
non-enhanced QSOs in urbanized regions or had fleeting Es or tropo far south of
the Maritimes. To work our grids in the September VHF, meteor-scatter will
usually unlock the multipliers. Strong 2m tropo down the East Coast can happen,
but like this contest, can't be relied on. During summer Es, FT8, CW or PH will
work our stations easily.

Thanks to all who worked station VE1SKY. You got the multiplier. I worked hard
to get your attention using Ping Jockey, ON4KST Chat, and by spotting others on
the DXCluster, which along with PSK Reporter, and DXMaps, showed NS
meteorscatter activity on 50.260 and 144.150. To get any kind of score at this
remote QTH, a great deal of 'hustling' is needed. I'd rather sip coffee and let
the QSOs come to me, but typical September deadband conditions in NS requires
chat page activity and MSK144: a different style of contesting. Good fun! 73,
Roger VE1SKY
