Poor conditions coupled with all antennas pointed away from USA
makes for very slow contest. Europeans getting 3 points for
next door QSOs makes for very little incentive to make
slower 5 point QSOs across the pond. A shame that there
were only a few VEs heard on this side.

Then things got worse. Twelve hours into the contest it is
now dark, and the action should move to 40 meters. But, I
find that the main antenna has a very high SWR and signals are
very weak. The secondary antenna hears signals with an SWR
of only 3:1. While switching between the antennas I discover
the switch control has become unreliable. The more it is
switched, the higher the probability that there will be
no antenna attached. Keep futzing with the control for
the remainder of the contest, but never solve the problem.
I guess I will have to rebuild it this week.

S5 hash on 10 meters, S4 has on 15 meters, peaking towards
Europe. At least 10 never opens!

At 1424z I make a note that the 15meter band map is full
of signals spotted by USA stations but not one signal
is heard here, not even one that won't hear me.

No Russian QSOs on 80 or 160, or 15 or 10. Didn't hear
much from there either, except on 20.

I checked my signals on the RBN; it is interesting how many
times I could CQ and get NO spots on the RBN from anywhere,
except the PJ2 skimmer. Was hoping to get some USA spots
on 10 or 15 to get a few QSOs, but no joy from that source.
Only a total of 67 QSOs resulted from my CQing, mostly
on 80 and 160 in the wee hours of the morning.
