Comments:
This was a learning experience. Three weeks ago, my station rig failed during
the 160 meter Stew Perry. I replaced it with a FTDX-3000 which arrived on
12/30/15 and the learning curve was and continues to be huge! But thanks to
the invaluable assistance of Norm W9VQ, I was able to get both the rig and a
stand-alone version of MMTTY up and running. It was fun to use some of the new
features on the rig that my previous one didn't have and it made the operating
experience so much more enjoyable (like having a narrow 100 Hz filter) and all
that certainly helped to put more stations in the log. A lot of "op
time" was spent with my BIC fiddling with the new rig and not making
contacts. That and finding my way back to the right screen again. A lot more
cockpit time is in order.
Also, I went into this event just needing ND on digital to complete the Triple
Play. I worked two ND stations; the first one on Saturday but he doesn't use
LoTW. I worked the second ND station on 40 meters during the last hour of the
contest and my fingers are crossed that it will be the one that puts me over
the top.
The next project is to get MMTTY meshed with N1MM+ but getting better antennas
up comes first. I'll most likely be fully retiring this new year and am
looking forward to having a lot more time in the shack getting things to work
better.
