Hello from the Sunny Caribbean " ZF2BH back in the Frozen North

It was a real joy to visit yet another island in the Caribbean. And it is not
just another island. It is a place with friendly people, a well functioning
society with high standards and safety " hence a fine place for a
wandering visitor. A great week it was, combining beach life with radio.

ZF2BH was to be on 75M in the ARRL DX Contest (SSB) to break an 18-year old
record but the existing record was left intact as 1638 QSOs did not qualify for
victory. There were 12 hours of 75M propagation " that's 1440 minutes.
This is equivalent to a bit more than one QSO per minute.

Did that constitute running a pileup or just pushing the F1 key for 12 hours?

Indeed, that was about the number of US folks available on 75M as a result of
higher bands being as good as they were - probably more attractive for the
Stateside gang. But nevertheless it was another contest win and a great
experience in terms of hearing how 75M sounded in the Caribbean and an occasion
to give contest buffs a slick ZF multiplier.

But if not a record as such, it was a lot of fun to meet and get to know the ZF
folks and feel their warm hospitality. Thanks to John, ZF1DJ; Eden, ZF1EJ; John,
ZF2AM and Joe, ZF2AH for making it all happen and obviously to the Cayman
Amateur Radio Society, ZF1A (CARS) for allowing me to use their most impressive
station with multiple towers and an 80M beam to produce a super signal - as it
was described all along. Also, it is now my privilege to be a member of CARS.

I also drove by the location of Phil, ZF1PB from where Kevin, ZF2DX set an
astonishing low- power record.

Finally, thanks to my travel companions Leena, OH2BE and Juha, OH8NC/ZF2NC for
a grand time on spent on Grand Cayman.
