Comments:
It was great fun operating again at CR2X. Even if propagation was way down from
last year both high- and low bands.
I set my target to new EU-record and counted that if 10M would open up just a
bit, maybe score about 10milj points would be possible. Anyway I made my
strategy basis on totally missing 10M band since I assumed that 10M would not
be as â??goodâ?? as it was in EU-record year 2006.
So I decided that I had to work very hard with multipliers from the very
beginning of the contest in order to compensate approximately 50 â?? 60 missing
mults on 10M and make somewhat more Qâ??s than 2006 and get the advantage from
QSO amount.
Even 10M remained almost completely closed from Saturday my strategy seemed to
be paying off. After first 24 hours I was still in tie in multiplier by having
over 40 mults more on low bands than what I had 2006. And having 200Qâ??s more
gave me nice 200kpts lead over EU-record.
But second day was even worse than the first one. Hour after hour I was falling
behind compared to record and could not get anything going on low bands during
those slow morning hours. I got really tired (and bored) when rates dropped
below 100 Q/h and I had huge difficulties to stay on chair.
Leaving low bands at 09:30Z did not help much since rates remained somewhat
low. I could not get almost any NA runs on 15M. Suddenly at around 14Z I heard
huge signal on 10M with 2nd radio and thought that itâ??s some of those AF
stations worked already yesterday. During my next QSO on main radio I was able
to identify that station as W2FU! I wasnâ??t able to believe what I was
hearing. Worked him quickly and began calling CQ. That produced nice 20 NA
station but then the band was dead again.
At the end Iâ??m quite happy with somewhat reasonable score in very difficult
conditions. Thank you all for QSOâ??s and special thanks to Radio Arcala team
and great friends in Azores!

PS. Have you ever thought what 160M packet pileup might sound at the other end?
